ABOUT OUR PRACTICE

Your life is about to change.

First, if you can breathe, you can yoga. I promise! The breath is what drives a physical yoga practice. Learning to harness your breath controls your emotions, tension, and discipline. Start with deepening your breath mindfully each hour. Set a notification on your phone. With each deep inhale, retain the breath, then slowly release the exhale breath, and feel your lung capacity grow each day. By controlling the breath you will reduce anxiety and gain confidence.

Next, give mantra meditation a shot. I have “Chihuahua syndrome”  which means I am constantly on-the-go and the chatter of my mind plays on repeat.
Mantra meditation is where you choose a mantra and repeat it to yourself for a certain amount of time. For example, “Om” “Peace” “I am love” “I am strength.” By reducing the chatter of your mind, you are more connected and grounded with the yourself and the universe.

 Learn the roots of yoga. Read on the 8 limbs of yoga, yoga sutras, and the origins of this practice. Yoga is so much more than the physical practice (Asana). Yoga includes a philosophy that cultivates a way of living a peaceful and mindful life.

Lastly, don’t take yourself too seriously. Please giggle. Please fall out of a pose and give yourself grace. It took me a year to touch my toes. My lizard hip opener still looks janky 75% of the time. And. That. Is. Okay. Yoga was never about nailing a posture. It’s about what you learn on your way.

What ever you do, start your practice now. You’re life is about to change.
